About the Boatyards

Gippsland Ports is the designated waterways manager of 1,431 sq km of some of the largest and most beautiful waterways in Australia, stretching from Anderson Inlet to Mallacoota over 720 kms of the south-eastern coastline of Victoria.

Paynesville is home to the largest operation, housing a boatyard with a full range of maintenance activities, a 40 tonne travel lift and the largest capacity slip (120 tonne) between Westernport Bay and the NSW border. Bullock Island boatyard operates a 100 tonne travel lift to cater for the larger vessels, whilst the slipways at Port Welshpool, Mallacoota and Port Franklin can handle vessels up to 50 tonne, 16 tonne and 8 tonne respectively.

Gippsland Ports is a Committee of Management established in 1996 to manage the State Government™ Ports and Harbours functions for the five designated local ports of Gippsland.

Waterway Management

Waterway Management responsibilities include navigation, port operations, regulation, security and compliance, boating safety, incident management, emergency response, maritime security, oil spill response and salvage and dredging and sand management.

Vessel Repairs

Gippsland Ports also operates several vessel repair facilities, consisting of two boatyards offering most repair and maintenance services, and three basic slipping facilities.

Services

Gippsland Ports Boatyards lifting and relaunching operations are supervised by qualified personnel. The boatyard can also load/unload vessels to/from road transport and arrange launching of the vessel at the site.

The boatyards offer highly skilled maintenance and repair services, however, owners and/or contractors are able to perform maintenance tasks after completing induction training.
